MKI Escort South London Style

Classic South London looks this MKI Crossflow-powered 1700 Escort I photographed for Classic Ford Magazine has plenty of trick touches.

I met up with Stuart Woolley at his home in South London, I had an idea of the type of location I thought would suit this car but as am not local to the area was a little lost. Stuart said he knew a couple of local industrial estates we could take a look at, we drove past what I thought was the perfect location and about a mile down the road Stuart pulled over, I thought he was taking us somewhere specific. Having only seen the columns from the road I suggested that we go back and take a closer look, on entering the car park it became apparent that this car and the location were meant to be together.

Unbeknown to me Stuarts mother worked in the building that owned this space, after a friendly chat with the security guard who he also knows we were allowed to shoot. This has to be one of my favourite shoots of 2016 and I am so happy to finally be able to share it with you!

Rauh-Welt Begriff United Kingdom Porsche 964 911

RWB UK Trailer

Currently I am working on a short documentary showing the build of the first Rauh-Welt Begriff 964 Porsche 911 build in the UK. RWB is run by Japanese car designer Nakai-San, he creates wide arch body kits for Porsche’s and tailors the cars ride to that of the driver.

In the last year alone Nakai-San has built over 60 RWB’s across the world, his designs are now so famous that they are used in The Need for Speed video games. This 964 is the first to sport the Royale wide arches and Fender wings and is also one of the first to have a sound system.

The full feature is expected to be 20-30 mins in length and will be released late in 2016. For now I hope you enjoy this 36 second teaser. To keep updated on the progress follow my social sites which are available at the top of the page.

The Royal Photographic Society Journal – Masters Tips

The Royal Photographic Society has been of great help to me over the past few years and really aided in my research for my photographic degree. Every year I attend the annual awards held at The Royal Society in London, this gives me great inspiration and the opportunity to meet many other great artists.

Last year I graduated with first class honours and the society gave me a feature about the work I completed for my degree, since then they have followed my work and my progression. About a month and a half ago I was approached by the Journal to share some hints and tips on creating realistic looking composites, over the past year this has become one of my most sought after talks. Simon Shaw’s MKI Cossie – CFM

In this months issue of Classic Ford Magazine you can find a feature on Simon Shaw’s MKI Escort Cosworth, we photographed this on a cold day in December and found a really cool looking old urban estate.

When it started to get a little darker we headed down to the arcades on the seafront where we met a security guard who though he knew better about the law of photography and decided to pace up and down by the car. Luckily for us he didn’t realise that all the time he moves it is really easy to remove him from the image. Air Lift Performance

Last month we went out with Jamie a young car enthusiast from Kent to photograph his Audi A6 Estate. The A6 is his daily drive and at home he is working on a fast Ford 100E Escort. The problem with modifying cars is once you start you just can’t stop and it appears Jamie has got the bug.

Even though it is less than a month since our last shoot he has already added an air ride system and a custom front grille, this means that he was desperate to get some update images of it to show the before and after. Having suggested that he would like to shoot in London I found an idyllic location, the weather Monday evening was far from perfect and although I advised against it we still went out.

In-between the breaks in the rain we quickly shammied down the car and started shooting, the results were great despite the weather. Have a look at the gallery below:

MCE Watch

I discovered a new app called Wish, they offer lots of different products for very little cost and as I am building my product photography portfolio I thought why not give them a go. I ordered a watch from China, it took only 8 days to arrive and although it is only made from stainless steel and cost £16 including delivery and VAT it was a great investment to create a nice watch image. How long the watch will last when being used or how well it will keep the time I am unsure for now but it looks great. Here is the image I created from it:

On Friday I received an email from Pip Jamieson, Founder and CEO of The Dots; which has been named as the “LinkedIn for the creative industry”. The Dots is an important place for aspiring creatives’ to both find and share work opportunities, it is full of inspiration from across the industry and is regularly celebrated in their weekly inspiration emails.

I was introduced to The Dots at University where I met Laura Richardson, Head of Marketing and Partnerships at The Dots who gave a very informative lecture and introduced us to the platform. Since then I have met with her and Pip on many occasions including Award shows as well as portfolio review evenings. I think that is one of the best parts of The Dots, the connections they have in the industry and being able to pull these people together for an evening of portfolio reviews which greatly aid in the direction and self development needed to succeed in this industry.

The exciting news that Pip shared with me is that Sir John Hegarty, advertising legend and co-founder of the award winning agency Bartle Bogle Hegarty has been announced as Chairman of this fast growing network for creative professionals The Dots, if you are not yet part of it you need to check it out! www.the-dots.co.uk

So what does this mean for the future of The Dots?

Sir John has more than 6 decades of being at the forefront of the creative industry, with eight D&AD awards, fifteen Clios and almost too many Cannes Lions awards to count, Sir John will be leading the next stage of development and growth of The Dots in the UK after securing a £1.5m investment. This means that the website can now be made mobile friendly, it will become easier to promote yourself and to connect with new contacts and opportunities.

Since launching in September 2014, The Dots has rapidly become the go-to platform for the creative sector, attracting thousands of clients to promote their brand and recruit talent, including the BBC, Tate, Net-a-Porter, Vice, Airbnb, Sony Music UK, Condé Nast, Spotify, Facebook, Red Bull, WPP, Selfridges, Channel 4, Liberty, Saatchi & Saatchi, Viacom, Fremantle Media UK, Twitter & Somerset House.

Range Rover Evoque 2015

After my initial excitement first thing in the morning from the success of the Yeti and SL550 images I had taken I had an urge not to waste the day. I had been planning to go out with my friend Ian who has a brand new, top of the range Range Rover Evoque; I wanted to take it down into the Darenth Valley for some nice scenic shots and the chance to get it to crash through the ford at Eynsford village.

The only problem with the valley is it is full of lots of small roads, which make stopping for a long period not really a viable option. This meant that I would be shooting 100% natural light. As we approached the bird of prey centre I shouted at Ian to stop as I saw the landscape ahead, I quickly jumped out the vehicle camera and tripod in hand and took a couple of shots. This resulted in the image below which got the attention of Land Rover USA who are now using the image for their social media feeds.

A bit further down this road is an old Roman Villa and a private track leading to an old farm house. As you enter the track there is a small wooden bridge which I thought would be great to shoot at, having the lovely texture of the old wood, the valley rising in the background and a hint of the farmhouse in the distance.

I was hoping that by the time we had returned to Eynsford village the sun would have been low enough to highlight the old bridge and ford, but unfortunately the trees and a couple of houses formed a shadow over the area I wanted the Range Rover to splash through. However I never leave home without a flash or two and after a bit of experimentation I got the flash in place to be able to photograph the vehicle splashing through the water.

There is one more image that I am waiting on, it is a moving shot with an avenue of autumn coloured leaves, come back in the future to see if I have managed to get it looking just the way I would like it. I showed the image to a friend of mine in America, and he wanted to have a crack at finishing it off; so let’s see what he manages to do with it.

Skoda Yeti

I was travelling to the gym Tuesday morning and the quality of light was just beautiful, it was that low Autumn sun with a really warm glow filling the skies and back lighting the trees. I thought to myself, I need to get out there and do some automotive photography, this is an amazing day!

On my way home I was driving down a small country lane, as I peered through some trees I saw this Skoda Yeti was sitting there so proudly. It looked fantastic framed by the surrounding vegetation and the slight spills of light flaring around it. I quickly grabbed my camera as I knew this would be a shot not to be missed.

Mercedes SL550

On Tuesday I decided to go for a drive and see what cars I could find in their natural environments, that’s right a cars “natural environment”. Where does it park up at night to go to sleep, where does it back into out of the full sun, where does it reside.

A day of natural light car photography was in hand when this beautiful Mercedes SL550 appeared lurking no more than 500 yards from my home, set back into the shade of the over shadowing house it sat, nice and smooth with the natural light highlighting the fallen autumn leaves below it.
